Raoul Wallenberg graduated with a degree in architecture from the University of Michigan in 1934. In July 1944, after negotiations between the Swedish Foreign Ministry, the American War Refugee Board, and the World Jewish Congress, Wallenberg was appointed to lead a mission to rescue the Jews of Budapest. By the end of World War II, he had saved the lives of tens and thousands Hungarian Jew.
